Holmfirth High School

For a number of years we worked with Claire Gurd, the Drama Teacher, and her Year 11 students.  Through group discussions students and Sharing Memories share their life experiences and ideas. Students usually devise developmental drama pieces as a result of our visits and these are sometimes performed to pupils from local primary schools as well as to the group.

Sadly Claire left the High School in 2011  but we continue to have a very positive working relationship with the school, mainly through Jo Brear for music and drama projects.  Jo and the headteacher, Andy Williams, recently supported us on a Festival Songs project to produce a new body of songs about the Holme Valley to perform at the Holmfirth Festival of Folk - see past projects.   We hope to include High School pupils on our current Arts Train project.

Drama Project 2004
Thursday, 20 July 2006

ImageYear 10 and 11 pupils made a documentary theatre piece about communication and changes to society since the Second World War, using members of HVSMG for their research.  They explored questions such as ‘How big is the world today?’ and looked at advances in travel and technology.   The children came up with a loose questionnaire and, using the information they had gleaned from the group, devised a short piece of documentary theatre.
