Holmfirth High School

{mosimage}Holme Valley Sharing Memories has been working with Holmfirth High School for a number of years, most notably with the drama department.  Our projects include short drama pieces based on favourite pieces of music from our youth; gardening with Kronos and cooking with students who struggle with mainstream engagement.

We worked with a group of musical pupils on a wonderful project for Holmfirth Festival of Folk - writing new songs about the Holme Valley with the help of musician Roger Davies and children from Holmfirth JI&N School and performing them to a packed audience at Holmfirth Parish Church.

In 2009 students were involved in other asects of our work including the Vocalise project at Lydgate school and the Scrapbook story project. They are currently working on our Pennine Landscapes Project which will culminate in an exhibition in July 2010 as part of Holmfirth Artweek.

Friday, 09 March 2007

ImageIn the Autumn term of 2006 for the local history component Sharing Memories worked with pupils to help them research the history of the woollen industry and its impact on the growth and development of the Holme Valley. Sharing Memories were ‘guest speakers’ and pupils composed a questionnaire and conducted interviews with the group on their personal experiences of working in the woollen mills.
